Boy injured on Virginia Beach fair ride

A boy riding “The Extreme” at a Virginia Beach fair injured his shoulder, according to WVEC.

The ride was shut down and re-inspected by Virginia Beach officials, and it was deemed safe.

According to the ride superintendent, riders should make sure they’ve had a physical in the past year.

The injured boy is expected to be OK.

Study suggests teens need more sleep to avoid Virginia Beach auto accidents

A new health study suggests that teens who start classes at 7:20 a.m. are putting themselves at greater risk for Virginia Beach auto accidents, according to BusinessWeek.com.

Teens need at least nine hours of sleep.

Virginia Beach teens statistically have more Virginia Beach auto accidents than teens in a neighboring city where high school students start school later.

10 die in Virginia auto accidents over holiday weekend

June 10, 2010

According to the Richmond-Times Dispatch, 10 men and women died in 10 accidents across Virginia over the Memorial Day weekend, compared to seven last year.

Of the 10 people killed in Virginia auto accidents, three were motorcyclists and one was a pedestrian. Some of them occurred in Virginia Beach, among other places in Virginia.

Man dead after Virginia Beach accident

A Virginia Beach man is dead after law enforcement officials say he had been drinking and not wearing a seatbelt, according to WAVY.com.

The 20-year-old Virginia Beach man was driving a Ford Focus. He veered off the highway, hit a light pole and overturn several times.

Roanoke authorities want to keep motorists safe

The Roanoke Times reports Roanoke County police officers want to promote safety during the Memorial Day weekend, which is one of the deadliest Virginia highway holidays.

Virginia seat belt usage still lags the nation. About 82 percents of motorists in Virginia used seatbelts, compared to the U.S. average of 84 percent.

Virginia also logged 756 traffic fatalities in 2009, the lowest since Virginia traffic death counts began in 1966.

Virginia Beach motorcyclist killed

May 20, 2010

A high-speed Virginia Beach motorcycle accident has left one man dead.

The Daily Press
reports that a 37-year-old was driving his Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle down London Bridge Road in Virginia Beach and was struck by a Lincoln Town Car.

The 37-year-old motorcycle driver was thrown from his motorcycle, and the Virginia Beach man driving the Lincoln Town Car is being charged with driving under the influence.

A Ford Explorer rolled into a Virginia Beach field while trying to negotiate an “S” curve on Morris Neck Road in Virginia Beach.

Teen dies in Virginia auto accident

April 29, 2010

A 14-year-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle Virginia auto accident.

According to starexponent.com, the Virginia State Police say the 14-year-old was the front-seat passenger in a 2006 Ford F-150.

A 16-year-old driver, who also had two 17-year-olds in the vehicle with him, crested a hill, lost control and struck some trees.

Virginia State Police said speed was a factor in the accident.

Virginia Beach motorcyclist killed

According to an article from The Daily Press, the motorcyclist was traveling in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach, traveling south on Princess Anne Road when he crashed into a car that was making a left turn. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Virginia Beach man dies after cigarette fire

April 14, 2010

A 74-year-old Virginia Beach man is dead after he lit a cigarette in his bedroom and started a fire.

According to an article on FireEngineering.com, a caretaker for the Virginia Beach man found him unconscious and called 911.

Smoke inhalation appeared to be the cause of death, but the Virginia Beach medical examiner will determine the cause of death, the article said.

The article also reported that the home didn’t have working smoke detectors.
